Yes: Naproxen is the generic name for the drug found in aleve (naproxen). Advil and Motrin are forms of ibuprofen. Both drugs are non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and should not be used together.

A 46-year-old female asked:

My son had his wisdom teeth taken out yesterday. He is now running a 101.1 fever. Can I give his motrin while he is on oxycodone?

You can but caution: Oxycodone, often given in combo with Acetaminophen (tylenol (acetaminophen)) and generally known as Percocet for pain control in situation such as dental extraction here. The tylenol (acetaminophen) should help with fever, but may not be enough (often 325mg). So, you can add another plain tylenol (acetaminophen) 325mg or motrin, but must monitor closely as infection is a concern and follow-up with the dentist is recommended. Good luck.

Ask your provider: Sorry, but without knowing your medical history, reason why you want to take those medications and being your health care provider of record, we can't tell you what medications to take. All medications have risks associated with them. You need to discuss this matter with your own health care provider.

A 24-year-old female asked:

Is it safe to take Advil (ibuprofen) multiple times a day if I was prescribed 500 mgs of naproxen every 6 hours? I am worried because the bottle of Advil (ibuprofen) says no

Advil (ibuprofen) + Naproxen: Both of these meds are considered NSAIDS which are notorious for causing GI problems (stomach bleeding), The maximum dose of Ibuprofen is 3.2 g, and Naproxen 1.5g daily. Do the math. There are other better ways of managing pain than taking same meds-NSAIDs. You need to consult with a doctor that specializes in pain for more information and medication adjustment.

Meds: Depens (penicillamine) for what you are taking, also depens (penicillamine) on dose of both of them. But safest at least 8hours, best after meal.

Can i take Advil (ibuprofen) and naproxen together?

Yes, you can: taking both at once should be OK, but taking too many NSAID's, every day for several weeks or months can cause damage. Always talk to your doctor before combining medications.
