A member asked:

Is it correct to refer to munchausen by proxy as a mental illness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Munchausens: Munchausen syndrome is a type of factitious disorder, or mental illness, when a person repeatedly acts as if he or she has a physical or mental disorder where in fact they themselves have caused the symptoms. People with factitious disorders have an inner need to be seen as ill or injured.
