A member asked:

Can my wife have baking soda in water as she is 32 week pregnant? is it safe to have?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dyspepsia: I'm assuming she is having some dyspepsia (heartburn). Baking soda might cause some temporary relief, but it is usually short term, but a small amount should be fine. However, in my patients I have them use generic zantac or pepcid for heartburn and of course tums, (calcium carbonate) mylanta also fine. The zantac (ranitidine) and famotidine (pepcid) will last longer.
