Oral Antifungals: Scalp fungus (tinea capitis) responds poorly to topical antifungal medications. This is because the root of the hair is infected and the topical medication does not penetrate deeply enough to make a difference. Oral antifungals are what is required to treat this type of fungus. These include griseofulvuin, terbinafine, itraconazole, Fluconazole and ketoconazole among others.
