Odynophagia: ... Is the medical term for pain upon swallowing. There can be many causes, although most commonly it is due to some sort of irritation of the larynx or esophagus. Acid reflux is a very common cause, although medications, very hot or cold foods, and upper respiratory tract infections could contribute at times, among other things. This needs to be evaluated by your primary care doctor. Good luck.
