Kidney stone: Going to the ER for care may hasten passage, yes. What is needed is high fluid intake and through put, up to 4 liters per day. You can do this orally. An IV can speed the process. If pain is high, and if nausea vomiting are present, then ER help becomes essential. Imaging is not essential at this point. Ultimately, you want and need this stone to pass or be removed within 1-2 weeks at most.
