Past drug abuse: per se has NO effect on symptomatology pf Schizoaffective disorders directly but MUST be taken into account when PRESCRIBING medications for such patients which may have addictive side effects!

Depends on patient: Schizoaffective disorder is a mental disorder characterized by abnormal though processes and deregulated emotions. The dx is made with the pt has features of both schizophrenia and a mood disorder like bipolar or depression but does not strictly meet the diagnostic criteria for either alone. The affect of genetics, environmental factors,drugs on the neurobiology of this disorder are complex.
