Yes, it is thought: to be safe to take mefenamic acid (Ponstel) safely while you are nursing. You should also ask your own doctor.

Little is known: It is known that this is a NSAID. it has side effects like aspirin. It is unclear if this is safe in breast feeding mother. If necessary to take then take it but would consider if need to continue to breastfeed. It may have gi side effects on the child.
Consult your family doctor for an alternative.

Most likely: If mefenamic acid is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding. Because there is little published experience with mefenamic acid during breastfeeding and it is potentially toxic, other agents may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.

Breastfeeding: It is best to avoid all unnecessary medications while breastfeeding like during pregnancy. Some mefenamic acid does appear in breast milk. Pregnancy category C means either animal studies have shown toxicity or enough studies have not been done to determine safety. Best not to take the medication while breastfeeding. I am glad breastfeeding which is best for the babies health is happening.
