3year old with random fever spikes to 103 over past 3 days and no other symptoms except extremely tired when fever hits. what could cause this?

Fever: Fever tends to make us all feel icky.Children tend to lay about when they have fever -so your child's behavior is not unusual for someone with an fever.Our bodies mount a fever as part of our immune response. It is the body's way of trying to handle infections. Make sure that your child is staying hydrated, and follow up with their pediatrician for evaluation.

Infection: Fever in children is usually caused by infections, the majority of which are viral and self limiting.

Mgt and follow up: I would recommend treatment with childrens tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin for fever of 101 of more, monitoring your child's temperature and keeping her well hydrated. Please check to see if there are any rashes or neck stiffness and if so please take her to the ED. If she has a fever of 101 on day four, please have your pediatrician evaluate.
