That depends: on your level of fitness. If you are just starting then keep the weights low, ie 6-12 pounds and maximize repetitions. I would strongly recommend the advise of a personal trainer at a reputable gym for guidance, and proper technique for the results you are expecting. Bicep tendon rupture is a very real possibility at your age in addition to shoulder trauma. Congrats on your efforts.
