See your doctor.: You will likely be advised to have the IUD removed (this is easily done by your doctor, and will likely cause some brief cramping). It is possible that removing the IUD will result in a miscarriage, but it is more likely to occur if the IUD is left in place - plus there is a risk of infection! If you are electing to end this pregnancy, the IUD can be removed at the time of the abortion. LGromkoMD

See your GYN: While it's rare to get pregnant with an IUD inside, it's possible and you should talk to a GYN about what you want to do with the pregnancy first. If you want to have an abortion, then that should not be a problem, but if you want to keep the pregnancy, then your GYN may order some ultrasounds to better understand the risks to your pregnancy.
