I've had a bad cough for about 2 weeks now the cough has improved but now i get a painful burning/tingling itch in my throat that causes me to gag/cry?

Allergy / infection?: is it dry cough ? That could be as an allergic reaction to meds of foods,if there are mucus ,then it could be a slight chest and throat infection that may need antibiotics and meds to loosen mucus.
