Referred Pain: If this in a molar then this is probably referred pain similar to the ear pain. Give your surgeon a call to discuss his pain management, or dose his prescribed pain medicine tonight accordingly. I hope he is feeling better soon!

Dental pain: It could be a referred pain meaning the tooth is not the source of the pain. If it continues I would see a dentist.
