Why might someone have an eye hemorrhage?

Multiple causes: The most common cause for eye hemorrhage inside the eye is diabetes. Vascular malformations, accidents and some rare inherited diseases can predispose to hemorrhage. Hemorrhage can also occur on the whites of the eye from trauma, straining and sometimes spontaneous vessel breaking.

Rubbing: The most common form of eye hemorrhage complained about is also the least dangerous and most cosmetically obvious, that of hemorrhage on the eye surface. Many times this is seen in combination with ocular surface disease such as allergies, blepharitis, dry eyes and chronic use of eye drops with preservatives. Irritation causes eye rubbing and breakage of the delicate surface blood vessels.
