A member asked:

My husband was recently taken off haloperidol. what kinds of side effects he can expect?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: There is usually no withdrawal from coming off haldol (haloperidol). If he was on it a long time at a high dose, it should be tapered to avoid withdrawal dyskinesias = abnormal movements. The biggest concern is relapse of the condition that it was used to treat. It is used to treat major psychiatric conditions which have a high relapse rate and consideration of alternative medications for relapse prevention.
