A member asked:

Why are you supposed to wait 4-6 months to introduce solids to a baby?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Oral coordination : This is usually when babies learn to stop pushing food out of the mouth with their tongues ,and develop the coordination to move the food from the front to the back of the mouth for swallowing . Starting earlier might risk food being sucked into the airway .Also , it can interfere with the baby getting the optimum requirement of calories and nutrients, from formula or breast milk .
