Yes: Utis typically cause some burning upon urination along with some lower midline abdominal discomfort. If the kidneys are involved, which makes the infection more serious, you may experience some pain in the mid back on either side.

Not always: Most utis, in people with normal bladder sensation, hurt &/or cause burning on urination. Some are associated with pelic, suprapubic or back pain. Some utis are painless.
