Will there ever be visual eye implants for people who lost their eyes in a accident?

Not soon: The eye connects to the brain with a nerve containing about 1.2 million fibers. There is no known way to cause one nerve to re-establish a connection let along a million. So eye transplants are a thing of the future. If the eyes are intact (but blind) some work is being done on microarray light receptive implants which might help. Stem cells might also help. But no quick fix yet.
