Radiographs: Cephalometric films taken by an orthodontist can be used to visualize the entire jaw, the maxilla, the skull, and the sinuses. From these films measurements can be made to compare growth patterns and jaw size to known averages. Routine periapical and bitewing films are used to check for cavities and periodontal bone loss. The are not the same.
