Specializes in Internal Medicine - Geriatrics

Common: UTI are somewhat common in the elderly, especially females. Hygiene plays a big role, but there is a direct correlation with both bowel and bladder incontinence and frequency if infection. Men with uncontrolled urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate are also more susceptible to infection from urinary retention.
