Norpramine: A tricyclic antidepressant, it has been used for many years. Is better tolerated than other tricyclics due to less sedation & effects on GI tract & minimum drying effect. As long as dose is therapeutic, it is safe.

Desipramine: Desipramine (norpramin) is a non-selective tricyclic antidepressant used to treat major depression, ocd, enuresis, and various anxiety disorders. It is more directed towards inhibiting norepinephrine than serotonin reuptake, but affects both.

Desipramine is primarily a noradrenergic medication, it does not have a role in treatment of Obcessive Compilsive Disorder

Thank you, Dr. Khreim. I was surprised also, but found it in an older reference that came before the advent of SSRI's. You're right that SSRI's are much better for OCD.
