How long does someone need to be on the ventilator thing before a doctor can declare them "brain dead"?

It. Depends : it depends some clinical tests and brain scan and EEG to decide if someone is brain dead. Ventilator is just there to support breathing. If someone is brain dead then ventilator can be discontinued anytime when doctors are sure!
