How can i be the only person in my family with diabetes if it's genetic?

Genetic: Because not everyone in the family will develop diabetes. In my family my late mother had diabetes as does one brother and one sister. My late father did not have diabetes nor do I or my younger brother. Yes it can be hereditary and it could also be caused by having the wrong foods.
