Why do i get random violent coughing attacks?

Hard to say: Cough attacks may come from a variety of sources and maladies: asthma, infection ( pneumonia, bronchitis, abcess) post nasal drip, allergy, gastroesophageal reflux. Couldn't be sure about your specific case without more history and a listen.
