Effect of hormones: at 21 y.o. cystic mastopathy of breast tissue accumulating fluid in ducts to produce cysts does not occur. Rather one effect of estrogen is on the gland to produce fibroadenomas that appear as discrete lumps. Mammo should not be performed for evaluation until 35. If any question it can be resolved by sonography.
