Very very slim: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) is effective when it is inserted. No method of contraception is 100% but the chance that you are pregnant is very small. The contraception is immediate but the side-effects can take a bit longer to go away ( the cramping and irregular bleeding). Hope this helps. My patients love them after the first 1-2 months.
