Myopia primary cause: Most commonly due to myopia where the eyeball is longer than usual and stretches the retina until it tears. Can also occur due to a consequence of surgery or diseased blood vessels in the retina (diabetes) which pulls the retina. The least common cause is injury.

In several ways: Retinal tears occur due to pulling of gel like structure called vitreous in the eye. Near sightedness, family history, injuries to eye can lead to tears in retina. Sometines retinal tears can progress to retinal detachment with significant vision problems. Some patients needs treatment to prevent retinal detachment. Needs examination by retinal specialist.
