A member asked:

Can some of the premature babies be affected by drugs given their moms?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Fetuses, at any stage of development, can be affected by compounds ingested by the mother. However, not all drugs are harmful to the fetus. For example, if you do go into premature labor, the OB will give you steroids to mature the premature baby's lungs. Also, once babies are born, if mother is breastfeeding, drugs can be transmitted to the infant through the milk. However, not all drugs are bad.
