6%: The last statistic i heard for the U.S. Army was 6%, which sounds about right based on my experience as a military psychiatrist.

Military stats: Agree w dr. Nasky. 6% is current # quoted for the army. However: "the U.S. Military says that 12% of combat personnel in iraq & 17 % serving in afghanistan are taking prescription antidepressants or sleeping pills to battle the mental strain of extended tours of duty and the horrors of war. Per a times magazine article.
