One week: I want to see babies after they get out of the hospital at one week of life, especially if the baby is breastfeeding. Unfortunately, insurance companies create many stipulations regarding if and when this first visit may occur. Call your pediatrician's office and find out!

Within 24 hours: Where are you planning on giving birth? Babies are seen by a pediatrician within the first 24 hours of life; then seen each day while they are in the hospital until discharged. Typically 2 days for a vaginal delivery and 3 days for a C-section. Once they leave the hospital, they need to follow with a pediatrician between 2-5 days later.
