Local swelling + pain that worsens as you describe + local tenderness = Tietze Syndrome. Causes = unrecognized injury, coughing, etc. or unknown. Ibuprofen, avoiding painful actions Lidoderm patches & local steroid injections reduce pain, but they last 6 or > wks. & stop on their own.Painful, but benign
