Complex issue: While warfarin has been around longer with an excellent safety record, the new kid on the block, rivaroxaban, also appears to be possibly safer. A major difference, patients don't have to get their blood tests every 7 to 30 days with rivaroxaban. That in itself makes rivaroxaban a nicer alternative.
