Look to alternatives: Many physicians arrange for another to be custodians of their charts after they retire, and the local medical society may have that information. Alternatives like the school records, college or trade school applications, baby books, etc. may have it.The medical boards of the states determine how long physicians must keep records. At some point they are all destroyed.
