Reassurance: A negative d-dimer is reassuring. Consider why the doctor does not think further testing is indicated and why you are convinced that you have a blood clot. Blood clot more commonly occur in people with a genetic predisposition for increased clotting, in morbidly obese, and/or after periods of immobility. If you do not have any of these risk factors, a blood clot is unlikely.

Other factors...: There are other facts to take into consideration. To start with d-dimer is a very sensitive test. So if normal the possibility of having a blood clot is very low unless other symptoms or tests show otherwise( for example a possible radiologic test, a very suggestive physical exam, disease that put you at risk, etc). If all these is normal and symptoms explained by other causes then it is unlikely
