IUD & pregnancy: Yes, you can get pregnant with an IUD especially if it is extruded from its' intra-uterine space. Even if it is in place correctly the IUD does not prevent conception it only prevents implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus. The failure rate is less than 3 % but ectopic pregnancies occur more frequently then any other contraceptive method other than tubal ligations.
