Yes, but...: In test tubes, buprenorphine binds to mu opiod receptor more avidly than does tramadol. But analgesia is a very different concept, and depends on nature of pain, chronicity of it, dose and duration of drug, and individual genetic characteristics (such as expression of splice variants of mu opiod receptor). For some people tramadol is better analgesic; for others, the reverse.
