Rogaine (minoxidil) & protein diet: Most often male baldness is an inherited trait, occurring with testosterone production. Hair loss can be affected by thyroid levels and stress, e.g. a major illness. Protein rich diet/vitamins are important. Rogaine (Minoxidil) topically may help (monitor side effects). External loss is secondary to trauma, e.g. tight rubber bands or hats. Hair transplants, flaps, and expanders are surgical options.
