Get follow up: Usually you should be up and moving but with the extreme pain you are reporting you may need a reevaluation.

Back fractures: are serious and require immediate surgical evaluation. Looking to make sure it is in good position and not whacking on nearby structures nor other internal injuries is required. Then immobilization (back brace).

ItCanHurtLikeHell: Quote:"There is pain and stiffness in the back for weeks after a transverse process fracture. Bed rest, pain medicine, and a slow return to activity are generally recommended. Neck and back braces may be helpful in reducing pain and increasing mobility.[ Firstly,]simple walking will help to begin the process of returning to normal activities." Physical therapy will help, too. Be patient and go slow
