Abdominal swelling e: This is not normal. I bet her abdomen is also painful. PLease take her to the ER or hospital - the swelling and hardness needs to be evaluated further.

Talk to your mom: Have you talked to your mother about her infection and medication? That would be the best way to relieve your concern. If she does not understand what is happening either then perhaps you can accompany her to her next doctor's visit so that you can ask the doctor the questions that you have.

Consider the ER: If she has a hard swollen abdomen she needs to be seen by a doctor to get checked. If she is in pain take her to the ER. An exam and possibly a CT scan or KUB xrays will give you a diagnosis and they will be able to start her treatment.

See doctor: Swollen and hard abdomen is not usually caused by a bladder infection. I suspect something more serious and you should bring her to her doctor very very soon to get this checked out. If necessary, get a 2nd opinion.
