A member asked:

How much is it normal to bleed at delivery and how do they measure it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Birth is bloody: Typical blood loss for vaginal deliver is about 200-300ml, or up to 500-800ml with a c-section. This looks like a lot, but a woman's body makes extra blood during pregnancy to be prepared. Docs usually just estimate amount by looking, but if there is a lot of bleeding, all of the pads, gauze, etc. From delivery can be weighed to measure more precisely.
