A swollen tonsil: a unilateral swollen tonsil may be indicative of a unilateral infection. if it remains swollen for at least 2 to 3 weeks more I would see your primary care physician to establish a cause. Smoking could certainly be the cause however I would expect bilateral swelling if smoking were the cause.
