No: sedatives as a rule do not affect genuine organic pain

No and Yes: Typical pure sedatives medications such as benzodiazepines (e.g. versed) do not treat pain. Typicall an opioids is added to treat pain. For certain procedures, selective nerve blocks with local anesthetic can be performed to treat pain thereby eliminating the the need to give opioids. Opioids have a sedative effect but they do not result in antegrade amnesia like benzodiazepines.

Both ideas are: correct. Opiods have sedating properties and pain relief, and anesthesia produces sedation and amnesia.
