A member asked:

What symptoms would you expect in an alcoholic who has been heavily drinking for 35 years?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Highly variable: There are individuals who may drink heavily for decades and yet have few medical complications outside of a physical dependency on alcohol, and withdrawal symptoms when they stop, especially suddenly, including seizures, DTs and death. However, most get some complications - GI bleeding, gastritis, liver damage (cirrhosis), pancreatitis, heart failure, arrhythmias, increase in cancer, infections.
