A member asked:

What medications does the doctor give a hyperthyroid patient?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

2 types, generally: Hi. The most common medications used to treat newly diagnosed hyperthyroidism are antithyroid drugs (methimazole or PTU) to calm down the hyperthyroidism, and a beta-blocker to help fast heart rate and tremor. If radioactive iodine therapy is planned, probably just the beta-blocker in most cases. Good luck!
