Several options: There are different types of hyperthyroidism, some self-limited and require only supportive care, and others lasting indefinitely and needing definitive treatment. If you're 16, your body will usually tolerate hyperthyroidism rather well. Treatment options include pills that block thyroid function or radioactive iodine; surgery to remove the thyroid is almost never indicated for hyperthyroidism.
