Strep throat: "Beta Strep" is short for beta-hemolytic Streptococcus infection. It is the "strep" in Strep throat. A common test for it is the "rapid strep test" done by a throat swab. Another, more comprehensive, test is a bacterial throat culture, also done by a throat swab. The most common treatment for Strep throat is penicillin-based antibiotics, such as amoxicillin.
