A member asked:

What is alpha arbutin? is it safe to treat the dark circles under my eyes with it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alpha-Arbutin: is an α-glucoside, blocks the conversion of tyrosine to dopa then to melanin. Melanin is the pigment that darkens our skin when we are exposed to UV light. It is also found in aging or "liver" spots. Alpha-Arbutin is noted to reduce these dark spots in studies. The dark circles under your eyes is not caused by melanin production but by allergy symptoms and should be treated as such.
