Reactive soft palate: The Hyperactive Gag Reflex (HGR) is the body's reaction to stimulation of the soft palate or posterior pharynx, usually by food. This typically results in vomiting and possible malnutrition. The cause if an excessively sensitive glossopharyngeal nerve or oversensitive area postrema in the brain (the nausea center). In 2017 the most effective treatment is desensitization of the reflex.
