What might cause gag reflex problems?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Irritation: Anything which can irritate the nerves in the back of the throat may aggravate gagging, such as foreign objects (eg, fish bones), tumors, infections, masses in space between spine and back of throat, swollen neck lymph nodes, medications; but also unpleasant thoughts, gastroesophageal reflux (gerd).
