Babinski sign: The babinski sign is the response of the toes, foot and knee to stimulation of the sole of the foot. When the big toe extends, the other toes fan apart (and the ankle dorsiflexes and knee flexes in some cases), this is a positive or upgoing toe sign, which means the nerve input to the toes has been damaged somewhere in the brain or the spinal cord.
